A Normally Closed circuit (N/C), when wired properly requires that the latch (male side) be inserted into the buckle to complete the circuit in order to be able to start the forklift.

A Normally Open circuit (N/O), when wired properly does not require the latch (male side) to be inserted into the buckle in order to start the forklift. If wired to a buzzer or to an alarm, they will sound until the latch (male side) is inserted into the buckle. If wired to a dash lamp, the lamp will stay illuminated until the latch (male side) is inserted into the buckle.
